Winter is a challenge for drone flying, in several ways. Days recently have been short, of course. They have also been cool, calm and sunny in the morning, but by late morning strong winds appear and clouds ruin the color in the scenery.
Knowing that, I picked a calm morning and raced over to Laughlin, Nevada. Most people who have heard of Laughlin at all remember it for a famous biker gang fight in 2002.
That reputation is a shame, because Laughlin has some wonderful scenery and is beautifully situated on the banks of the Colorado River some miles below Hoover Dam.
On this first visit I managed to got a couple of flights with the Inspire over the Big Bend of the Colorado State Park, in Bullhead City South of Laughlin. Those are the first four aerial videos in this gallery. The first two were taken looking North and then South from above a a jetty near the North end of the park. The next two were taken from above the camping sites at the South end.
Then, just for fun, I added a video of the very careful landing process one employs when surrounded by water...
Within an hour, the wind came up, so I scouted the Davis Dam as a photo subject, then drove North to a cove with a broad beach to enjoy aerial flights over the water.I certainly want to return when the weather and light are kinder. There is a lot here!
