This is presented in three sections: The lake, the Dam and its namesake rock formation, then the outflowing Rio Grande. Both Elephant Butte Lake and its neighbor Caballo Lake, were formed by damming the Rio Grande.
Elephant Butte Lake
As shown in the map, the lake is huge, with various access areas developed as state park land.I flew the drones in the southern area Northward from the dam, then about halfway up the lake at Rock Canyon, and finally at the northern end of the lake.
