Looking out across the Caldera spurs the mind (briefly!) to imagine what it must have been like when the volcano erupted!
There was evidence of more large wildfires, from lightning or in some cases, man-made. The color riot enveloped the charred tree trunks, beauty enveloping ugliness.
When we drive from Santa Fe through Los Alamos to the Fenton Lake or Gilman Tunnel areas, we go through the park and stop at the viewing site. People stand there staring, and you can see their minds at work.
