The South Rim of the Grand Canyon

I happily drove to Arizona for the opportunity to take a helicopter flight originating from the Grand Canyon National Park airport. Here an entire fleet of helicopters serves the immense number of visitors who come to view the spectacle of the Grand Canyon. The Canyon is ten to eighteen miles from rim to rim as fly out above the Colorado River, so the helicopter is the best method to see the central portion of the canyon without extremely challenging surface travel in very rugged terrain.

This is the view of eagles, something to remember ever after. As we flew back toward the airport, we flew above the Kaibab National Forest and looked down on the steam-powered train which supplies the park from the town of Williams, fifty miles to the South.

After the flight, I drove a few miles toward the North and entered the park, finding some overlooks with commanding views out over the canyon. No matter what we do with our photography, it is hard to convey the majesty, the immensity and the calm of this famous geological artifact.

We download a small library of images to display on each of these gallery pages. That takes a number of seconds, but we think you will very much enjoy the result!
