Thorfinn - Truk Lagoon

CAPTAIN’S LOG -- Update by Capt. Lance Higgs

S.S. Thorfinn

Welcome Aboard the “NEW” S.S. THORFINN, the largest live-aboard dive vessel in the Pacific, and one of the largest live-aboards in the world. The “NEW” THORFINN just returned home to TRUK LAGOON in Jan. of 96 after undergoing a complete refit in Carins, Australia. Approx. $1 million dollars was spent to make the “NEW” THORFINN the most luxurious and spacious live-aboard in the world. The S.S. Thorfinn is superbly equipped to serve as the ideal base for your diving adventure in TRUK LAGOON. At 170 feet in length, the S.S. THORFINN insures stable, deep comfort while either cruising through the lagoon from one dive site to the next or at anchor.

The spacious main salon is located amidship on “C” deck, adjacent to the fan tail. During the re-fit, the 24 X 36 ft. salon with its full bar was one of the primary areas to receive a new look. Some of the many features added durning the re-fit include a large ocean aquarium, state of the art BIG screen TV, VHS and eight millimeter VCR’s with an updated video library and Dolby surround sound stereo, indirect lighting, large full view windows, and modern decorating colors. The main salon serves as the central gathering area durning the entire day.

Another area that received major consideration during the re-fit were the staterooms. The S.S. THORFINN offers 11 spacious air-conditioned staterooms with a total capacity for 24 guests. All of the staterooms feature full vanities, in-room televisions, video cassette players, indirect lighting, large full view windows, full length closets, new carpeting, and modern decor. The 8 staterooms located on “D” & “E” decks have queen-size beds with an additional berth for a possible third guest and also have private baths with a head and shower.

One of our large open air lounge areas is located on “C” deck and features our custom designed hot tub. Our ocean spa has comfortable seating for 8 divers which affords them an opportunity to unwind while enjoying a cool drink and a light snack between dives. If you're not in the mood for a dip in the tub, there is ample space to sit and relax on the fan tail and enjoy the peaceful view of some of the islands and altos located in the lagoon.

During the evening hours a romantic setting is created by the strategically placed lighting, located in the teak handrail which surrounds the this area. The second open air lounge is up on “B” deck where you will find the sun worshipers relaxing in the lounge chairs maintaining their tans. Adjacent to this open air space is a shaded area for those who just want to relax, read a book, or just sit and enjoy the view of our tropical paradise.

Located directly behind the main salon and adjacent to the hot tub on “C” deck, you will find two new camera tables. Both tables offer the camera enthusiasts a protected area to work on their equipment, charge their batteries (110/220 voltage) and store their camera cases. Top of the line underwater video cameras with lights as well as Nikonos V cameras and accessories are available for rent. Daily E-6 film processing is available, for those who want to see the results of their underwater efforts.

Only the THORFINN can offer you sit down dining experience for 24 guests in our large private dining room. None of the other “little” liveaboards can afford you this luxury. In its newly re-decorated condition, our dining room will make every meal an enjoyable experience. Service from our friendly dining staff comes from the separate galley which was also completely renovated durning the re-fit.

Under the experienced leadership of Captain Lance Higgs and Narinta, our experienced Micronesian crew is dedicated to serve your every need. With a crew of 11 serving a maximum of 24 guests (the highest ratio of crew to guests on the Pacific), we guarantee you’ll feel truly pampered.
