Report on a Classic Destination: Always something NEW!!
| |
Another year, another fabulous adventure in South Australia. The new March through September season is working out beyond our hopes. The water is a bit cooler (65 to 68 degrees), but the sharks seem to come to the coastal islands during these months--and there is simply nothing better for eager photographers than willing sharks!!
This year we had a number of highlights, but my favorite was being stalked by a persistent shark while we were sitting on the bottom in the elevator cage. you could almost hear this confidant shark murmuring, "All right, boys. I know you're in there, and I have all day. I'll find a way to get in..."
You never knew when she was going to make another ghostly pass, nor from which direction she would appear. Our cage was surrounded by small fish, which were using our bulky cage for shelter from predators. One time the shark glided in behind a screen of the little fish and was SUDDENLY THERE!!! We could only imagine our fate if we hadn't been safely within our cage. |
|
I'm going to try a July trip next. That is right in the middle of the best season for the shark sightings, and this year there have been plenty of sharks. I can't imagine what tricks the sharks will try next year!! |
